Five Little Pigs (Hercule Poirot, #25)Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Five Little Pigs is one of my favorite stories. I first saw the David Suchet version on TV, and just fell in love with it because though it takes place in the 1930’s, the action of the piece takes place in one of my favorite eras the 1920’s. It is a fascinating look at how people see a catastrophic event differently.

There are differences of course between the book and the show. The name of daughter is different and several other little things, especially the way it ends but essentially it is the same story. I find how she has the same story again and again and again, 5 times really, and each is different because each person who tells it is different and see is in their own way.

I also find it fascinating how an open and closed case changes when you listen to the personal versions because you see things that of course the lawyers would never have even have thought to ask of each witness. And several incredibly important facts are not apart of the trial.

I won’t tell any more because I don’t want to give away the plot. But I can see why this was one of Agatha Christie’s favorites. Such a complex and intricate plot. Brilliant.

Partners in Crime (Tommy and Tuppence #2)Partners in Crime by Agatha Christie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I do not have an accurate count of how many times I have read this wonderful romp. It is my go to book for a troubled heart. I really defy anyone who is down in the mouth, to read one of the short stories in this and not to be touched or smiling at the antics of Tuppence and Tommy. One of my favorites.

A Murder Is Announced (Miss Marple, #5)A Murder Is Announced by Agatha Christie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have always loved Miss Marple, her sweetness and kindness radiates from her, but her intelligence and need to find the truth drives her. Have you ever wished that a detective was real, sometimes when there is a horrible crime I hope for a little old lady who really knows what makes the world tick.

This story takes place in a small village that is full of retired people and young relatives and workers staying there too. In the local rag an announcement send all the neighbors running agog to see if what is announced, is true. A murder.

So read about the small village and how Miss Marple and Inspector Craddock solve this baffling who done it.

Agatha Christie as always so many layers that it is like trying to figure out how to re-weave a sweater. Give a go!

Come, Tell Me How You LiveCome, Tell Me How You Live by Agatha Christie Mallowan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is such a fun book, I read it quickly. I love learning how the archaeology worked back then and the way they explored Syria and how much fun and adventure they had.

Now to start with the tough stuff; If you read books written long ago, one thing you have to learn is to accept that they will be filled with prejudices of the time. I don’t think that Agatha was really prejudiced, she truly loved Syria and the people there, but her way of expressing herself was of that time. If you read her novels you see how they change, they become more understanding, the way she describes people becomes more modern and less prejudiced. I believe that was because of her travels and her love of learning about new people and new things. It is a lesson I learned from traveling with my parents and then on my own, if you travel open-hearted with a sense of adventure, you learn about other people and cultures and you become a more rounded person.

I see a lot of evidence of it in Agatha Christie’s writings. And I really enjoyed seeing the way Syria was way back then before the “IS” got a hold of it, and destroyed it. (which breaks my heart, I kept looking up the sites that Max was working on, to see if they were still there, most had been destroyed or mostly destroyed. His life’s work and the work of four generations of archaeologists destroyed. History does not just belong to one culture, it belongs to everyone, it is part of the historical record of the human species. To destroy it is just utterly heartless. A crime against humanity.

Now to the fun part; I loved her humor, how she made fun of herself and everyone else. The glimpse of the marriage between her and Max. The beauty of the places she went to, the marigolds, the wonderful clothes of the Kurd women, the sweetness of the people, the crazy scrapes the workers got into. The great descriptions of the archaeology at the time. (I have a lesser degree in archaeology and it was one of the reasons I really, really wanted to read this book, that plus my love of Agatha and my curiosity about Max.) The way the finds were split between the expositions and the people of the country they were in. Pretty fair really. (Not like the old days in the 1800’s where people just took stuff for their universities and museums without the permission of the country or the people. ) It is a fascinating read and I highly recommend it.

I, Samantha, Take This Mortal, DarrinI, Samantha, Take This Mortal, Darrin by Adam-Michael James

I really enjoyed this thoughtful closing to a wonderful series. The author who has been a guest on my show and is truly an expert on Bewitched and describes the universe of Samantha and Darrin beautifully. He has created a wonderful two-part ending of the series. He brings back a lot of favorites and delightfully explains anything that the fans might have had questions on through the years of the show. I have loved Bewitched since I was a tiny little girl and I still love it, it’s a definite must for any Bewitched fan.
