Plays, Cons and Chat!

Our next play is called Cat’s Pajama’s!!! This beautiful poster was created by my friend Anja Gruber, isn’t gorgeous? It is my play and it is really different from my last one, so I am very nervous but it is such a cool story.  I am so excited about it, I can’t wait for you to hear it. We will begin our rehearsals next week.

Well I had a great time at Condor this year, I met some really great people and sat on some really amazing panels.  I also attended one or two panels that I really enjoyed. The first day all I had to do was my book signing, so I was able to relax get my first picture with the Tardis, look at the art display, take a turn around the dealer’s room. The first picture on a panel is all lovely centered and in focus.  That one is was about how watching Science Fiction can inspire one to be in the field in science, and what was cool was that we had members of the audience who were inspired to follow the inspiration and did go into those fields. It was  really crazy on the next day because I had four panels and three were back to back, I felt like I was running a marathon.  They were really diverse. I had panels, on time travel, being politically correct in film and fantasy films are they stalling out?  It was great fun but exhausting for little old me.

The most important one for me was the one with DC Fontana, we had a great time on that panel, I asked the questions as the moderator, it was about franchise film as opposed to a one-off.  I really know little of the subject, so I asked my friend Steven L Sears for some ideas and he gave me  several and a great jumping off point, Thanks Steve, it was a fun lively panel.  I had the time of my life, I can’t wait for next year 🙂

Sorry I am late this week, but I have been in a never-ending whirlwind! I started casting two plays for Sherri’s Playhouse. First up will be Chekhov’s Revenge and second will be my play Cat’s Pajama’s.  The first play is based on the great Russian Playwright, Anton Chekhov.  My play is based on a true story about a brave, intelligent and fun-loving journalist who writes columns on life in the Roaring Twenties.  It is only based on the real woman so I have changed a lot of information on her and created my own adventures for her.  I will need several men and women, I have already started casting both plays and I am very, very impressed with the talent pool.  If you would like to take part just send me a note at; https://www.facebook.com/Sherris-Playhouse-1415103118746094/

 

I added a new chapter and tried to smooth and correct my time travel novel, Fantasy Time Inc. The audio book which was, (I hope corrected) by me and was wonderfully read by voice artist; Eileen Rizzo. Well the new audio version of Fantasy Time Inc was listed on Hot New Releases in Fantasy on Amazon. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow and this time I had to accept I did too. I have been working every day on the book but the truth is I don’t want to release it till it is right.  So I am taking my time and will release it when I feel it ready to be released. I am also done but now I am working on the formatting which for me is difficult. Here is our mini-interview;

What was the first book you remember loving? Do you still own it?—Wow, the first book I can remember really loving was Inferno, by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. It was an updated version of Dante’s Inferno and it was totally cool. I’ve always loved S?F and Fantasy, and yes, I still have it at my sister’s house in Canada.

.What kind of books do you like to read? Do those books have an effect on your own writing?—I prefer to read S/F and Fantasy, anything with action, and books that have a touch of romance in them as well. All of those things are like life itself—without monsters and orcs—but we all have a sense of adventure and whimsy in us, and that’s what I like to read about.

 Do you remember what is the first book that touched you deeply?—Good question. I think it was Tuck Everlasting. It made me think about the consequences of immortality. Blessings and curses often go together. This book showed both sides of the coin.

 Is there an era of writing that affects you? 1920, 1800’s so forth?—Mm…I prefer to read something that happens in the here and now, although with a twist to it. I’m not against historical dramas and what have you, but some I’ve read have been wrong in terms of the terms and artifacts used, and I like for things to be accurate. Just my thinking…I guess I’m a little OCD about it!

Where do you like to write? Is there a favorite nook or corner?—I have a writing desk set up in the corner of my apartment and slave away there. In between classes teaching English—my main job—I doodle on napkins or in a notebook if an idea hits me.

Do you prefer one genre to another?—I prefer S/F and fantasy/adventure to everything else, but if a story is well written, then no problem. I have read diverse fiction, and various thoughts on orientation are no problem for me. I’ve written lesfic as well as straight YA, so I like to try different genres in reading as well as writing.

 Do you like the feel of a book in your hands or do prefer an electronic devises?—To be honest, I love the smell of a new book, the crinkling of the pages in my hands, the feeling that “this is mine” and no one else can touch it. I do read books on my computer, but I guess I’m a little old-fashiioned. Paper is still where it’s at for me.

 Can you tell us about what your working on now?—Right now, I’m editing an action/fantasy called Arcana in which an Indiana Jones-type adventurer makes a deal and finds out that he got more than he bargained for. Of course, there’s a whole boatload of action, a little romance, and some humor. I’ll see how it goes. I’m also editing a F/F novel entitled What She Saw and working on the final of the Lindsay/Jo trilogy, Lindsay, Jo and the Well of Nevermore. It keeps me pretty busy!

Well, The Year Is Winding Down, Huh?

Lets just say it’s been a busy year 🙂  I have been working very hard and I am cutting back for the next couple of weeks. So last weeks Chatting With Sherri is the last episode for this year, don’t worry though we will be back on Jan 6th with new and fun chats!  Next week’s blog will be more reflective of the year but since I have my book fair, Kickstarter Campain still going strong this year I will be concentrating right now on making both as wonderful as I am capable.  I also am in the last stages of getting my latest book; “Entering The Second Half” completed.  Because it is my both my first non fiction and it is a memoir I am really cautious and checking it with my family and  friends.

It will be on Dec 25th from 11am to 6pm pacific time! We have done very well the last two years and it is a great way to get your new books out and maybe they will become a beloved Holiday Gifts! I now have 9 backers for my Kickstarter Campaign to fund my play A Heavenly Hand to launch a local theater group here in La Mesa. We had so much fun at our last rehearsal and I can’t wait for our rehearsal on Sunday. Everett Robert’s Murder At Home is our next production for Sherri’s Playhouse and it is going so well!  We are having a great time creating this Noir style play about passion, love,  hate and Murder! I am so excited about Producing and Acting  in this play on many  levels. I love Murder Mysteries and I will be acting in this one as well as producing it. Sherri’s Playhouse is on the Horizon

Sherri’s Playhouse is on the horizon we will soon hear it through a live Blogtalk radio broadcast! I’ve recreated the old Playhouse 90 from the 1950′s. We will do a show approximately once a month with all kinds of plays, I would like the playwright to narrate the show and I will direct and produce it.
