This is not my usual style it is not playful. It is about something that just destroys my heart every time I hear of a child’s death because of bullying. It seems to get worse instead of better. I was bullied as a child but there was no way that the kids who did it to me could recruit the whole school. It was just one or two kids, you just reported it and went on with your life. But today it is a horrid situation and it also seems to destroy younger and younger kids. And with the internet as a weapon it is truly a scary thing. For a long time I wanted to do something but I felt as helpless as everyone else. There is a song in the musical South Pacific that inspired my Children’s book;
You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught
You’ve got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You’ve got to be taught
From year to year,
It’s got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.
It inspired me to write a book to teach children about the way of love. To teach them the opposite of that song. To teach them acceptance and understanding. So my book is beautiful, sweet and colorful but it also teaches them that everyone is beautiful. Everyone no matter, what they look like, how they act, who they worship and who they love.
Part of the money from the sale of the book will go to an Anti Bullying group. It is the only thing I could think of to help stop this. Love is the way.
