Hear My Voice

—Sherri Rabinowitz

Hear my voice!

I cry out;

Die to be heard;

Drowned out by the

Reasoned and unreasonable;

Male and female;

Demanding I change my thoughts

To their own;

I am denied my voice!

My creativity!

My feelings!

Myself!

Postern of Fate (Tommy and Tuppence, #5)Postern of Fate by Agatha Christie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book, when I first read it I had no idea that it was her very last book. I love the glimpses of her real childhood. It is a fun book with some thoughts that fits today’s world quite well, which is very sad, it means after 40 years the world is still in the same mess it has always been in. Which is basically what she talks about in the book. Oh, and I don’t agree with the reviewers of the time, it is not at all boring or banal.

I love that even in old age that Tommy and Tuppence are very much the same. And I love it all started with sorting out books from moving into a new place, and deciding what to keep and what to give away. I related to that because I had a similar thing happen to me recently. It is a really good mystery, very much worthy of the Queen of Crime and I highly recommend it.

By the Pricking of My Thumbs by Agatha Christie

I haveBy the Pricking of My Thumbs (Tommy and Tuppence, #4) read this before and enjoyed it, but recently I saw a movie of it, they added Miss Marple and changed the characters so that they were almost unrecognizable as our Tommy and Tuppence. Since there were first rate actors in it (whom I truly respect a lot,) I gave it a chance but it didn’t just disappoint me, it truly upset me.

So I decided to read it again, and it was just as fun and delightful as I remembered it. First of all Tommy and Tuppence though more mature were still true to their basic core of being in love and a team. I loved that. And she made a point that just because you became older didn’t mean you didn’t passionately love your life partner. I loved that too! Tuppence, as Tommy called her was still a terrier and went after what she was investigating with true vigor. She was brilliant, though she got herself in real trouble, even then she handled it all superbly.

Tommy was still a steady, reliable fellow, who not only respected his wife and but adored her. When she doesn’t come home, he pulls out everything he has in bag of tricks to find her. And of course faithful Albert is there, with his chicken dinners. Albert actually came up with an important lead.

I can’t really tell you more but it was lovely. I actually stayed up to 3 am last night to finish it, because I had forgotten parts (it’s been a while) and wanted to finish it before I went to bed.

Central to NowhereCentral to Nowhere by D.J. Blackmore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

D.J. Blackmore’s; “CENTRAL TO NOWHERE” is a wonderful read created around a remote Australian station made which made me wish I could see it in person.

Ivy was hoping she to make a fresh start and turn herself into an experienced cowhand. Her new boss Adam O’Rourke despite how ill-suited she was found himself drawn to her against his will.

There is a lot of pain in this novel. Its about broken families, broken pasts and Alzheimer’s breaking a once strong mind.

Very intense but a good read, I had to read it in bits because some of it was intense but it is a heart filled book.

My Book Reviews;

The Harlequin Tea Set and Other Stories (Hercule Poirot, #44)The Harlequin Tea Set and Other Stories by Agatha Christie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I only knew one of the nine short stories in this anthology, The Mystery of The Spanish Chest which I had read in another anthology of Poirot stories. I am not horror person so I was a not a fan of those but I thought The Actress was really clever, I liked it. The House of Dreams was utterly heartbreaking. I loved The Lonely God! So sweet. Manx Gold was a lot of fun, I love that she created a real life treasure hunt, and created a story full of clues, see if you can guess where everything is before you get to the end where all the explanations are, I couldn’t. Within a Wall was also heartbreaking. I adore Harley Quinn so I was delighted to find I had never read this story, and it is really sweet and a bit scary, just like Mr. Quinn himself.

I totally recommend it 🙂

An AutobiographyAn Autobiography by Agatha Christie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is about the third time I read her autobiography and it is interesting that I pluck new things out of it each time. This time I recognized two characters from one of my favorite books that I just kind of glossed over the last time.

Also I really enjoyed her view of travel and the middle east. It makes me sort of sad because some of those very sites, that her husband worked so hard on were destroyed recently. And she brings all the beauty and people of the region to life for the reader.

As your read her novels you see her grow and change with her experiences, and as you read her autobiography you see where that growth came from.

Excellent read.

Thoughts on the loss of an Icon and my usual stuff

Please forgive this little remembrance but I have had a hard time concentrating today.  As I am sure all of you know an icon passed away today.  Leonard Nimoy has been part of our lives since the 60’s,  I was too young to images (1)watch Star Trek in its initial run but my Dad was huge fan and when he began his part of Paris in Mission Impossible I became a fan.  A few years later my cousin was in the first Star Trek movie and when I went to see him I fell in love Star Trek.  I was determined to see all the episodes which took patience and a commitment in the 70’s.  You had to wait for it to rebroadcast, no tapes, no DVDs, no DVR.  Just patiently waiting for it to play again.  I fell in love with all the characters, but Spock was special because though he was stoic he was such a vulnerable lonely man.  I felt such sympathy for him, he touched my heart.

Star Trek was the first fandom I became involved with. The first fan fictions stories I ever read was from Star Trek.  The first fan fiction stories I ever wrote was from Star Trek.  The first convention I ever attended was for Star Trek.  That was an amazing convention at the Los Angles Convention Center.  It was an anniversary of Trek, I don’t remember which one but the whole cast was on the stage.  I was so impressed, even though I was all the way in the back and they looked like tiny ants back where I was sitting.  I remember getting a soar throat  screaming and applauding Leonard Nimoy, Bill Shatner and Deforest Kelley on the stage.  I was so excited to see and hear them talk and joke.  And then Gene Roddenberry came on stage and talked about the origins of the show. Then they were all the stage chatting.  I was on cloud nine.  The next time I saw Leonard Nimoy was a smaller convention at the Burbank Hilton through Creation, He and Zachary Quinto were there to chat about and promote the new JJ Abram’s Star Trek.  It was the only time I got up close and chatted with him during the autograph period.  He was friendly and funny. He reminded me of my Dad.  I will miss him.

Well on to our regularly scheduled program, I will be doing a couple of events in March;

Birthday and Other Projects On The Horizon

When I was young I really looked forward to my birthday, it was my day.  I still do but now I feel this deep authormelancholy as I reach the day.  Reflections of my life and my plans flood my mind.  It is not getting older that bothers me it is really the realization that so many of my dreams are now behind me.  Not really achievable.  The reason I started my memoir, which is now in its final stages is because of this melancholy, it began as a therapy in a way and now it is something I am quite proud of.  I can’t wait to share it with you.

A scheduling note Chatting With Sherri will be off on Feb. 17th for the simple reason that it is my birthday.  We will back with wonderful shows Feb. 24th 🙂
