I love the show; My Life is Murder https://rismovieblog.wordpress.com/2019/11/06/my-life-is-murder/ I have been a fan of Lucy Lawless since the Xena days following her career, going to cons and going to singing performances, she is such a talented lady! I really hope this show is renewed!

Five Complete Miss Marple Novels: The Mirror Crack’d, A Caribbean Mystery, Nemesis, What Mrs. McGillicuddy Saw!, The Body in the Library by Agatha Christie

Well, I had read all the Miss Marple books in this volume before, but the first thing that struck me was that the order of the books made no sense. The Mirror Crack’d first, makes no sense at all, since the volume includes The Body in the Library which came first. What Mrs. McGillicudy Saw was also set and written before the first book. I am not sure what the publishers were thinking.

The stories are all brilliant and I enjoyed re-reading the books. I always enjoy Miss Marple and reading these books I found I forgotten parts or replaced them in my mind with adaptions in TV or movies.

The one I enjoyed a lot and forgotten the most was Nemesis. I think I had read the book once or twice but I had completely replaced it in my mind with the adaptions which all have a nephew accompanying her but in the book she went alone. And the Professor was far more involved in the story then in the adaptions.

I know that one stop shops are not really that popular because of the order the books are placed but it is also a way to have several of one of your favorite authors at your fingertips. So I do recommend it.

Book Reviews;

Out on a LimbOut on a Limb by Shirley MacLaine
It’s funny, I have read this book so many times that my copy is dogeared, not by folding down the edge ( I was taught never to do that,) but by being read over and over. I still find it fascinating. I had no idea that some of the people were composites, I always wondered what happened to David. He sort of disappeared in the mountains in the end. I just hoped he made it home alright, I found out later that he was actually several people, so I guess he did.

I know the focus of the book was Shirley and Gerry, (I later found out who he was too, and it was two different men. (at different times.) ) but I found the interaction with Bella Abzug and David much more compelling. And because I was very interested in my own spiritual search when I was in my early twenties, it was my go to book about trance channeling, and other pursuit of spiritual understanding. I was actually in college at the time and my adviser found me reading it a bit worrying, but since I was completely devoted to my education, she put it down to youthful pursuits. Hehehehe.

Well it has been years and I found the romance part a bit difficult to get through. I would have to push myself to read it. Not because of any judgmental feelings but I just wasn’t that interested in that part. (I have had my own life experiences now, so I am not as transfixed as I was when I was a much more innocent 23 year old.) I found some the theories still hold up. And others do not. I still find both David and Bella much more important relationships for Shirley and something that I still learn from. I think that my need to read the book was because of what she had in those friendships and how they were guides (David) and supportive (Bella) to her pursuits and needs. And that is why I gave the book 5 stars. It is the most beautiful part and the part that stands the test of time.

Southern Attraction- The College YearsSouthern Attraction- The College Years by Tracy Kauffman
Southern Attraction-The College Years continues the journey with Heather Brandon and her amazing boyfriend Jake as they go off to college. Heather struggles with insecurities of her past while trying to find a peaceful life. She had dealt with enough heartache to last a lifetime, including losing her parents, and surviving a tornado that ripped apart her new home. She wants Jake to settle down so they can enjoy their life together. Now all she wants to do is live a life of happiness and not worry about the man she loves.

I received the book from the author for an honest review.

The story is very good, the relationship between Jake and Heather showed that you can overcome the obstacles when you believe in each other. PTSD is very real, important and the sufferer’s torment about past happenings, very traumatic. It is also an honest portrayal. It is with knowledge about both the people who suffer from it and those who live with the people who suffer from it and what they go through. It is an important issue that needs to be understood by the public.

I do have to admit that this was a hard book for me to read, the characters were so distant. I know that angst is compelling but there should be some relief, some comic moments. Humor is always a good way for people to survive torment. It is why there is always humor in a thriller, the audience can only take so much. It would make so much easier for the reader.

I do recommend the book, it is a well done depiction of people who love each other, finding their way.

Humor

Stim by Kevin Berry

Stim by [Berry, Kevin]

When an adolescent Kevin Berry handed in a 50,000 word murder mystery for his high school English assignment, his long-suffering teacher accepted the stack of papers with poorly masked horror. Today, Berry’s work is generally met with a stronger reception, including multiple independent writing awards and glowing critical reviews.
Berry’s fiction is known for its high stakes and dramatic action, but his stories are drawn from his own life experience. In 2010 and 2011, Berry lived through the devastating earthquakes that struck Christchurch in New Zealand, forever changing how residents saw their city. His personal struggle with Bipolar Disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome inspired the characters in his novels Stim and Kaleidoscope, described as powerful and authentic representations.
When Berry isn’t raising his two sons, reading other indie authors or working as a copy editor, the writer can be found hunched over his laptop, face scrunched and fingers flying well into the early hours.

Collecting Shadows

Collecting Shadows by [Williams, Gary, Knerly, Vicky]
Summary:
When 16-year-old Liam Poston moves to St. Augustine, Florida, to live with his aunt, he hates
everything about the tourist town, from its boring history to the old homes and buildings. An
incident on the first day of school forces Liam to join the history club. The dreaded after-school
activity does have one positive: the knowledgeable and attractive Bailey Deeth.
The discovery of a photograph from a 1906 time capsule showing millionaire industrialist Henry
Flagler sitting in an exquisite but unknown parlor resurrects a local rumor of a secret group and
hidden treasure. Several pieces of Flagler’s mansion, Kirkside, which were distributed throughout
the town when the structure was taken down in 1950, may hold the answer. After a number of
mysterious deaths, Liam, Bailey, and the other members of the history club must search for clues
in order to solve a century-old code. Standing in their way is Stewart Farlan, a nefarious Scottish
treasure hunter who will do anything to stop them. For Liam, it’s a perilous journey which will
change the way he views the past.
That is, if he survives the present

Indisputable Proof

Indisputable Proof by [Williams, Gary, Knerly, Vicky]
Summary:
With his father in a coma, CIA operative Samuel Tolen may have found a way to answer
mankind’s greatest question: Is there life after death?
When the Sudarium of Oviedo—the venerable cloth that once covered Jesus Christ’s face on the
cross—is stolen from a cathedral in Spain, it sparks a series of grisly murders. Each victim is
killed in a manner resembling the form of execution of one of the Apostles. American CIA
operative Samuel Tolen, Spanish inspector Pascal Diaz, and British archaeologist Dr. Jade Mollur
embark on a journey to reclaim the Sudarium. Their search takes a surprising turn when a 2,000-
year-old clue from Joseph of Arimathea suggests a far greater secret is within reach; a startling
discovery that would forever change humanity.
Embroiled in a deadly hunt that takes them from the grounds of Harvard University to the coast
of Costa Rica, from a hallowed Greek Isle to an exquisite Spanish cathedral, and ultimately to the
doorstep of mankind’s greatest civilization, Tolen, Diaz, and Mollur will search for the ultimate
truth in the midst of unspeakable deception. But is it a truth mankind was meant to discover

Phantom: The Immortal

Phantom: The Immortal by [Szereto, Mitzi, Lister, Ashley]
by Mitzi Szereto and Ashley Lister
A contemporary erotic sequel that relocates the original character from Gaston
Leroux’s classic novel The Phantom of the Opera to present-day Paris…
While attending an auction of music memorabilia, young soprano Christine Delacroix
bids on some letters written by another young soprano, Christine Daaé, who lived
during the 19th century. Here she meets the handsome Compte Rezso Esterhazy, who
immediately sets out to court her. Despite his attentions, Christine becomes obsessed
with the Daaé letters and her namesake’s mysterious “Angel of Music”—a masked man
who lived beneath the Paris Opera House.
Seemingly immortal and frozen in time, the Phantom is condemned to life below the
opera house and in the shadows…until Christine Delacroix auditions for a minor role in
Faust. Convinced the Christine from his past has been returned to him, he sets out for
her to have the lead female role. He visits her in her dressing room to give her singing
lessons, all the while remaining hidden from view. Insanely jealous over Christine’s
budding romance with the Compte, the Phantom abducts her and takes her to his
underground lair, where the singing lessons continue. Only this time they are far more
depraved and sexual in nature.

Florida Gothic

Florida Gothic (The "Gothic" Series Book 1) by [Szereto, Mitzi]
by Mitzi Szereto
Stuck in a twilight world between life and death…
A hit-and-run driver leaves Ernesto Martinez to die by a Miami canal. Then an alligator
comes along to finish the job. Being dead gives Ernesto plenty of time to think. He
thinks about his wife, taken from him too soon by illness. He thinks about his daughter,
the victim of a drunk driver. He thinks about his death as he watches his body slowly
decompose. Most of all, he thinks about injustice. The meth head ex-con living in the
Everglades. The judge enjoying retirement on the Gulf Coast. The son of a Colombian
drug kingpin partying in South Beach. These men care nothing for the pain they’ve
caused. But they’ll soon know what it is to feel pain. Set against the sweltering bug-
infested backdrop of South Florida, Florida Gothic weaves a darkly unnerving and
visceral tale of sex, drugs, crime and vengeance.

City of Devils

City of Devils by [Robinson, Justin]

World War II was only the beginning. When the Night War ravages America, turning it into a country of monsters, humans become a downtrodden minority. Nick Moss is the only human private eye in town, and he’s on the trail of a missing city councilor. With monsters trying to turn him – or, better yet, simply kill him – he’s got to watch his back while trying to find his man. Or mummy, as the case may be.

Once, it was the City of Angels. But now, Los Angeles is the City of Devils…and Nick has a devil of a job to do.

Coldheart

San Francisco is on the edge of a blizzard, the first in a hundred years. A cannibal killer stalks the streets. A rash of abductions targets people seemingly at random. A city falling into chaos.

Chris Black sees the connection. On the trail of a missing woman, he uncovers the delicate threads uniting the disparate mysteries. But he is mentally ill and all of it could be the product of his diseased mind. Balancing the fog of medication with his descent into madness, he struggles to remain lucid in the face of horror.

Delving into a mystery that might be of his own making, he discovers a secret world. A world where women become serpents, the very ground can be his deadliest enemy, a world of the blackest magic. He has found the edges of something older than he can imagine, something that can change the fabric of reality.

Hounds of the Underworld Lee Murray

blends mystery, near-future noir and horror. Set in New Zealand it’s the product of a collaboration by two Kiwi authors, one with Chinese heritage and the other Māori. This debut book in The Path of Ra series offers compelling new voices and an exotic perspective on the detective drama.

On the verge of losing her laboratory, her savings, and all respect for herself, Pandora (Penny) Yee lands her first contract as scientific consult to the police department. And with seventeen murder cases on the go, the surly inspector is happy to leave her to it. Only she’s going to need to get around, and that means her slightly unhinged adopted brother, Matiu, will be doing the driving. But something about the case spooks Matiu, something other than the lack of a body in the congealing pool of blood in the locked room or that odd little bowl.

We are doing Hamlet, it is a very short version so don’t worry but it is an amazing thing to produce Shakespeare. One thing I really find interesting is how many phrases and words come from this play.  If you think Hamlet is not your cup of tea listen to the words, you will be amazed how many times you hear his words in our modern language and people just don’t realize it. If you would like to take part in our next production please drop us a line;https://www.facebook.com/Sherris-Playhouse-1415103118746094/
And to get you in the mood for our radio theater here is;  My radio play Cat’sPajamas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjTbxYwWv1A was tops on Twitter in the last week 🙂
